1. Project Overview

Audiovisual dubbing involves a complex production chain combining transcription, translation, adaptation, timing, voice production and quality review. Coordinating these stages manually can make multilingual localisation time-consuming and difficult to scale. ADS — Automatic Dubbing Solution explored how speech and language technologies could support a more integrated dubbing workflow. Its scope connected the processing of original audiovisual content with translation, timing alignment, synthetic voice generation and human quality control. By investigating how automation could assist different stages of the process, ADS addressed the need for more efficient audiovisual localisation while retaining human oversight over linguistic quality, timing and the final audience experience.

2. VoiceInteraction's Contribution

VoiceInteraction was a beneficiary of ADS, contributing its experience in speech transcription and language-processing technologies to the exploration of automated dubbing workflows. The project considered how transcription, translation, timing alignment and voice generation could be combined within a coordinated audiovisual localisation process. Human review remained an important part of the proposed workflow, supporting the validation and refinement of automated outputs. 4. Outcomes & Impact

ADS completed its funded implementation period in July 2024 and contributed to VoiceInteraction’s exploration of technology-assisted audiovisual dubbing. The project examined how multiple speech and language technologies could be brought together to support more efficient localisation workflows. This work is relevant to broadcasters, content producers and media organisations seeking to adapt audiovisual material for different languages and audiences. Verified benchmarks, supported language pairs, production deployments and product-transfer results are not currently available from approved public sources and should not be presented as confirmed project outcomes.
