1. Project Overview
Radio and television monitoring generates large volumes of audiovisual material that are difficult to search, classify and distribute using media files alone. Relevant information may be contained in spoken words, speaker changes, music and other acoustic segments, while different users need rapid access to the content that matches their interests. ALERTA addressed this challenge by exploring the distribution and filtering of semantic information associated with multimedia content. Its scope connected automatic speech transcription and audio analysis with semantic indexing, topic-based discovery and information-delivery workflows. The project supported VoiceInteraction’s early work on media-intelligence technologies capable of turning audiovisual content into structured information for monitoring, search and selective distribution.
2. VoiceInteraction's Contribution
VoiceInteraction was the project’s sole beneficiary and led its speech and multimedia technology development. The company’s work connected automatic speech transcription with acoustic analysis, speaker segmentation and semantic content processing. These outputs could then support advanced search, topic-based filtering, content alerts and the selective distribution of relevant information. ALERTA formed part of VoiceInteraction’s early development of automated media-monitoring solutions for radio and television, establishing a technical foundation for subsequent work in broadcast monitoring, searchable archives and media intelligence.
